Scheduling and justification

We have scheduled for our show to begin at 06:00am-10:00am as from this time
Our show will feature several different sections in order to make it both fit into the codes and

onwards university, work and college students will be starting to wake up to begin their
day and they will be able to listen to this on the commute, whilst they get ready or both.
The radio show will finish at 10:00am and then switch to a different show which will be
hosted by different presenters 10:00am is a good time for this after 4 hours the
presenters will need a break and as people arrive at work and college they will
inevitably tune out anyway making this a good time for a change over.

Content

The content of our radio show will feature a talk show segment. This is because we are
creating a radio talk show. Our demographic target audience are 18-24 so the content within
our show should reflect that. That’s why we will be having a segment where we talk about
issues such as student life and the issues surrounding it. As our show will be aired in the
morning we will be incorporating these themes in a fun and interactive way by asking the
audience for their opinions on topics such as how to deal with a bad roommate or the worst
night out in uni. Linking this to the target audience it is appealing because this content is
relatable to them and they’d find it entertaining. To add, we will be playing local musicians
alongside famous artists such as the Arctic Monkeys. Sheffield is famous for its bands and by
having music that appreciates local talent will make students listen to it as they want to
support and listen to good local artists.
Charlotte

Jingles

The Jingles for the show must build the shows brand identity and include the shows
name and give a hint to the content of what is coming up to entice the listener in so
they will stay on and want to listen to the show. The bedding music and theme of the
radio show must also be upbeat and fitting with the theme and conventions of the show
i.e. indie or techno bedding track.

News section explanation:

While creating the news section of the SCC morning show it will be of vital importance that I select
stories that will be appropriate for the target audience that I am trying to reach. Below I have
inserted several examples of stories which I have decided that I would use in the show as t=well as
the reasons I thought would be of interest to them.

1) Artic Monkeys reunion:

The Artic Monkeys are an indie rock band from Sheffield and would likely reach the same target
audience that SCC radio attempts to reach. Therefore, the story of their long awaited 7th studio
album "Tranquillity base Hotel and Casino" would be of great interest to the people listening to the
SCC morning show.
From investigation I found the date that the new album was to be released (That being the 11th of
May 2018) as well as the fact that the band would be playing two dates in Sheffield in their
upcoming tour.
I decided that this would make a great story for the show as that it fits so accurately with the target
demographic as well as their associated interests so well.

2) Jarvin Blake's murder

The ongoing investigation of the stabbing of Sheffield father of three Jarvin Blake is another news
story which I feel that my target audience would be interested in hearing about as that It is a
situation which Is ongoing and one which shows the ongoing epidemic of knife crime in the UK
this year.

From investigation of this story on the websites of both the Sheffield Telegraph and The Star I
found that police were stating that they were confident in catching his killer and that they were
urging the public to come forward with any "Nuggets of information" that could help the put
together the  full circumstances of the fathers tragic death.

3) Wakefield schools cleared:

On the BBC website I found a story about the Wakefield academies trust (an organization which up
until recently owned 21 more schools than it does now) one of the schools which belonged to this
family was Yewlands Academy Located in the Parsons Cross estate in Sheffield.
This story was of interest to me as that it was cleared of any wrongdoing after the police
investigated.

I feel that this type of story would be interesting to my Sheffield target audience would be
extremely interesting.

4) Drones Being used to crack down on south Yorkshire crime:

On the Stars official website I found a sorry about the trailing of drones in use of aiding the police
force in the Sheffield area at night. The fact that this story revolves around the idea of increased
surveillance as well as new technology and the police force makes me think that my target
demographic would find it very interesting.

Other considerations:

When reporting news stories it is vital that nothing is inaccurate or untrue as that that could
potentially come under slander.
the ordering of the stories Is also very important as that it matters when it somes to matching the
codes and conventions of a real radio show as well as making an audience feel as if they are
watching a professional product when viewing the SCC morning show. I have decided to order the
stories as such.

Wakefield academy of schools
Jarvin Blake
Police Drones
Artic Monkeys

My reasoning for this was because many news stations like to have a story at the end of the news
section which is "on the lighter side." This helps the audience to start their day in a more cheerful
mood despite knowing about the potentially upsetting news stories which they have heard. I have
decided to do this within our show and in order to do this I have included the news of the new Artic
Monkeys album (something that the audience would likely be exited for in order to help them start
off their day in a good mood despite the stories that I have decided to broadcast.
My final consideration concerns the at in which the news section begins. In many news broadcasts
the section begins with several bulletins about what the days stories are. This is ,I feel, something
that we should defiantly do with The SCC morning Show's NEWS section. before the beginning of
the detailed reading of the news stories we will have mini bulletins separated by the sound of a
ringing grandfather clock (as that this is a common sound effect used for this reason)

But first our top story today is that the Wakefield Academy trust has been cleared of any wrongdoing in light of a police investigation.

Charlotte:

6:01:45-6:01:50

Suspicion was raised in relation to the finances of the company last September when an abrupt announcement was made that they would no longer be running 21 of their locations including the Sheffield based Yewlands academy.

Charlotte:

Next it has been revealed that south Yorkshire police are looking into plans which will see drones used to combat the rising crime in the Sheffield area.

Frazer:

6:02:15-6:02:20

Yes, the drones are going to take to the skies at night scanning the ground for any suspicious activity. This is a trial of a planned national use of the technology.

Matt:

6:02:20-6:02:25

This weekend we saw Daniel Ricciardo won the Chinese grand prix after Max Verstappen and Sebastien Vettel collided with each other and Lewis Hamilton called his performance a “disaster’.

Frazer:

6:03:00-6:03:10

Frazer:

Who do you want to see him fight ?

Charlotte:

6:03:17-6:03:23

I would really like to see him fight AJ I think that would be a massive fight, but Joshua has his WBA mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin to fight first, which leaves Deontay wilder open for a big showdown between Fury and Wilder.

[Start of discussion section]

Good morning guys, I hope everyone’s having a good day so far So today. Welcome to our daily “Discussion section” where we talk about problems that you are facing. our topic of discussion today will be flatmate horror.

Frazer:

6:04:52-6:04:57

We asked you guys to tweet in your stories and I must admit some of them are intense. [Laughs]We took the time to sift through and find he worst ones.

Hopefully we can try give positive advice.

Charlotte:

6:04:57-6:05:03

okay so the first story is about two rival flats who took it so far that a tree ended up in the oppositions flat.

Frazer:

6:05:03-6:05:07

I never understood how flats rivalled like this. See my accommodation was calm and everyone just got along really but how?
Matt:

6:05:07-6:05:09

I know right like, What happened for a tree to end up in the fight for who’s better?
Charlotte:

6:05:09-6:05:12

Basically, it says here that both flats were filled with sports students, the rugby team and the football team were constantly at each other’s necks for which is the better sport.

Frazer:

6:05:12-6:05:17

It’s started off fun because they were always hosting iconic parties such as the take down. They were super dramatic and filled with testosterone but one day the footy lads wanted to show their strength.

Matt:

6:05:17-6:05:20

They all came together and put a tree through the rugby houses kitchen window

Frazer:

6:05:20-6:05:24

Oh wow, that’s quite something. I mean I can understand why the footballers wanted to showcase their strength but this is definitely a step too far.
Charlotte:

6:05:24-6:05:26

solutions? Maybe first off, al don’t shove trees through people’s windows.
Frazer:

6:05:26-6:05:29

[laughs] Yeah, I don’t think I have much to say. Maybe keep the rivalry on the field.
Charlotte:

6:05:29-6:05:40

Going back to what I was saying earlier, my flat didn’t have tension but, in the beginning, I remember there being one occasion where there was almost a fight because one girl accidentally set the kitchen on fire.

Frazer:

6:05:40-6:05:42

Did the girl happen to be you?

Charlotte:

6:05:42-6:05:48

[laughs] No. So what had happened was one girl has set up the toaster but she put the instructions in the crumb tray.

Matt:

6:05:48-6:05:53

She thought it was storage so fast forward. Someone goes to use her toaster and a fire starts.
Frazer:

6:05:53-6:05:56

My flat mate had managed to put it out but the toaster was ruined.

Charlotte:

6:05:57-6:06:10

So my flatmate freaked out because he wasn’t supposed to use it he did just out of laziness. He tried to hide the toaster and act as if it was never there but she was very insistent that we had a group meeting.

Matt:

6:06:10-6:06:12

He confessed and we all put money towards a communal toaster.

Charlotte:

6:06:12-6:06:17

ah you see. That’s a really good way to solve an issue.  If you’ve just tuned in we’re taking about flatmate horror stories. Tweet us @SHURadio to get involved. We’ve got more after the break
Frazer:

6:06:17-6:06:23

we asked you to vote a topic and roommate horror stories by far won. Our Twitter has been going mad for the past couple of days with your story submissions

Charlotte:

6:06:23-
6:06:27

we’ve talked about the toaster that divided the flat, rugby vs football but I think the worst submission we’ve had is the mouldy kitchen

Frazer:

6:06:27-6:06:35

This story is quite something. We didn’t think we would be able to give the story justice so we had our friend Liz write it down for us. Here’s what she said:

Charlotte:

6:06:35-6:06:40

Okay so it says here: I’ve had problems with flat mates since I joined uni and I’m in my third year but when I was in my first I lived in halls like everyone else.

Matt:

6:06:40-6:06:45

There was this girl and she’d always leave her pots and plates all over.
Charlotte:

6:06:45-6:06:53

This doesn’t sound too bad but one day I was cooking and I saw her grab a pot that had been used for spaghetti or something. She’d left it there for so long that there was mould in the pot.

Matt:

6:06:53-6:06:57

And I watched her empty the pot but she didn’t wash it at all. She just left the mould floating in the sink.
Charlotte:

6:06:57-6:07:06

That was strike one. I went into her room once to borrow something and literally every plate/ bowl had some form of moulding food and she always complained that she was getting sick.

Matt:

6:07:06-6:07:10

So as a good Simaritians I decided to mention to her that it’s not helping her health, we got into an argument and she reported me for bullying.

Charlotte:

6:07:10-6:07:15
I had to go through so much to prove that I wasn’t and that’s when I realised that some people just don’t want help.
Frazer:

6:07:15-6:07:20

Oh wow that’s quite a story! So did she have to speak to the head of the building or something? Because I know usually they just give you a warning.

Charlotte:

6:07:20-6:07:45

She’s written here “the accommodation had a no billing policy (obviously) and they view issues like that very serious so they were considering kicking me out and due to recent issues amongst students. It was a time that bulling was almost on a rise and I had to get all my flat mates to help me with my appeal to the case. It was very intense and I remember the girl finding it funny. I didn’t mean to offend her I was just being helpful but innit but I guess not everyone likes that.”

Matt:

6:07:45-6:07:48

She said that she just stayed away from her and didn’t speak to her again.

Frazer:

6:07:48-6:07:53

that’s quite a mature thing to do because it would be an instinct for a lot of people to get very riled up and argue which I suppose is a normal reaction to someone lying.

Charlotte:

6:07:53-6:07:57

I can’t even imagine what I would do in that situation. Plus the stress of exams and keeping on top of work. It all worked out good for her in the end so that’s good.

Frazer:

6:08:45-6:08:50

Emilee said “ I think I’d go nuts and show them the room. She should’ve got kicked out for health reasons”

Charlotte:

6:08:50-6:09:10

@D_zilla has said “if I was her then I would have taken pictures of her room and her mess in the kitchen. What she did was vile and so is her behaviour. #reportthereporter

Frazer:

6:09:10-6:09:15

[laughs] well that’s a very good solution to a very big problem. Get at us at @shu #reporthereporter we want to hear from you

As can be seen from the key above different people from the group have added different sections from the script. It was Frazer's Job to sub edit and correct all of the different sections as well as to add the time codes.
I feel that this script will reach our audience appropriately as that the discussion section revolves around university life and the adverts also fit with the audience I am trying to reach.
